If you are a photography beginner looking to master shutter speed in 30 seconds, read on!
If you’re just starting out with photography, you can quickly become overwhelmed by all the buttons on the back of your screen. One of the concepts that people struggle with is shutter speed.
Shutter Speed is the length of time your camera shutter remains open.
Shutter speed can then affect two things:
- How much light enters your camera
- How fast your camera “clicks” to take a picture
Generally, when you’re photographing sports or a moving object you will want a fast shutter speed so the image does not blur. When you’re photographing a still object, you can lower your shutter speed because the object is not in motion so your only limitation is your ability to remain still while holding the camera.
The rule of thumb when it comes to light and shutter speed is that the faster your shutter speed, the less light is able to enter so the darker your image (and vice versa).
